The thing about texture is that it pulls you in. Whether it's implied or real, the sensation invites the viewer to touch. I am attracted to it. I want to feel the sensation through my fingertips, and of course as an artist I want to learn how. Of course experimenting with the unknown and unplanned is exciting, but these new works are much more than attempts. They are each an invitation to you to react. There is nothing new about an artist's use of texture; it becomes more about the why. My inner search was born sometime during our current and tumultuous political uncertainty. Like other creatives, my way of survival is to work. It is what I do best; it is listening to my blue-collar Midwest background that says keep working, good things will come. So I trust in these voices. For me this is a time for uninterrupted work. My studio calls me to focus on my work and to mute out the rest. So in this new Calm Series, my intention is for the work to communicate first and foremost a sense of peace. Color is my vehicle to achieve this. We respond to it, we take it in. and we react.
Work on Canvas
The canvasses presented here are each constructed individually by the artist. Before any composition begins, the canvas is stretched and primed using high quality materials. The edges are finished in a neutral gray color to compliment any interior. A wire is provided on the back for a ready - to - hang work of art.
